Ex's & OMG's Review: Atheists Who Kneel & Pray by Tarryn Fisher

On Tuesday I told you all about the new series I'm starting on my blog that I'm doing with my good friend Heather. The series is called Ex's and OMG's and Atheists Who Kneel & Pray is our first book. Enjoy our thoughts!!

Kayleigh:
If you follow Colleen Hoover to the extreme like I do - wow stalker much? - then you all know that she's friends with Tarryn Fisher. Even though she doesn't like her at all of course. (See if you stalk her...I mean follow her...then you'll get that little joke.)
I'm a huge Colleen Hoover fan - whaaaaat? I know, you're shocked - and when I saw her talk about this book on her CoHorts Facebook page I knew I had to check it out. I mean look at that cover.
The book follows Yara who is basically a gypsy. The girl can't stay in one place for to long, always needing the thrill of something new. She's also a self proclaimed muse and lucky for her our love interest David is in need of that very thing. So muse she becomes. But of course the two fall for each other and end up married. Now I know you're probably like um Kayleigh thanks for spoiling that but I swear I'm not. The reason I liked this book was because Tarryn is a really great writer and I've never read anything like this. Plus David was perfection. (Anyone remember that scene from Friends with Chandler and the gum? Gum would be perfection?)
What I didn't like was the back and forth. There were sometimes through out the book where I got really confused because she starts it back in time and then goes to present day. But then goes back again. And then back to now. If you aren't paying close attention it's easy to get confused.
All in all though I did enjoy it!!

Heather:
Okay so I went into the book not knowing much about it which is how I like to start most books, with a clean unbiased slate. So to my surprise it was nothing at all what I was picturing. I fell in love with Yara right away...this brash outspoken woman that was riddled with complexity. Then you meet David, this mysterious guy that sweeps in, is all kinds of charismatic and then leaves you wanting more. There is this push and pull between them that makes you feel like they are meant to be, but then you quickly realize this isn't a fairytale at all.
As I continued to read I found myself drawn more into the story, I needed to know what was going to happen, how would it end? I liked how it was written in dual perspective so I was able to feel from both of their points of view, which were drastically different. I ended up reading it in two days and when I was finished with the book I was left feeling closure, like I could move on with my life and not constantly wonder about it. Now I will say that there were times when I found Yara to be a bit dramatic for me, like she's too much in her head in my opinion and I would need to take a break because I found myself getting annoyed with her. David however sucked me right in, I felt like was this old soul trapped in a younger body and he was the reason that I needed to know what was going to hapen. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is a true believer in real love, the messy complicated kind that doesn't always make sense on paper.

New Series!!

Good afternoon friends, I hope you're all having a fantastic Tuesday. Today I want to talk to you all about a new series that I'm going to be doing on my blog called Ex's and OMG's.
Some of you may remember my friend Heather who shared her DUFF story with us back in June. If you haven't checked it out you can read it by clicking HERE.
Heather is a book lover like me and we thought it would be fun to start a book club. So the plan is to pick a book in the beginning of the month, take the month to read it and then discuss it at the end of the month. My gosh that's the most I've ever used month in one sentence. Anyway it should be a lot of fun and it's something I'm really looking forward to.
Now here's the part i'm sure you'll all eat up. Heather is married to my ex fiance. Wowzers how on earth did we become friends right? Because Heather is great and reached out to me last year. I realized what a sweet girl she is and it was impossible to not become friends. We know that a lot of people think were nutballs for being friends and even though it may be uncoventional I couldn't be more grateful. So because of our past we came up with our series Ex's and OMG's. Ex's is pretty self explanatory now and OMG's because books make us use that phrase a lot. I mean hot guy in book? OMG. Book sucks? OMG. I have to wait a year for the second book? O.M.G.
Our first review will be up this Thursday so I hope you all check it out and let us know what you think.
Have a great day book lovers!!

The Season of You and Me by Robin Constantine

Some of you know that I have a book reward system that I try to stand by. When I complete a few books I reward myself with a new one. Keeps me motivated ;)
I had finished book four in the Crossfire series and I was stumped for what to read next so I went to the bookstore with my mom.
When I book shop I have 3 stages.
Stage number 1: Skim shelves
Stage 2 Grab books I'm interested in and then pile them up
Stage 3: Go through and put half of the books back because I can't afford them.
I had my pile narrowed down to 3 and I asked my mom to choose to which she said no please don't make me. I made her. She chose this one.
The book is told in dual POV - yes I know you're all well aware by now that I love that. Our main peeps are Cassidy who recently broke up with her cheating piece of poop boyfriend and Bryan who after a dare gone bad no longer has the use of his legs.
Cassidy wants to get away from her skeezy ex boyfriend so she decides to go stay with her dad for the summer and be a camp counselor which is what initially made me attracted to this book. I only went to 7th grade camp but I did love it. I remember when I was little I wanted to be a counselor when I grew up but I never did it, so you could say I wanted to live vicariously through Cassidy. Bryan has been a counselor at the same camp for years and isn't going to let the lack of mobility keep him away, even though some parents have expressed a concern.
The two of them end up meeting and becoming really good friends. Cass doesn't treat Bryan like he has something wrong with him and I think that's really cool. I can't even begin to imagine what that situation would be like and for her to not coddle him is really great.
I haven't read a good young adult contemporary in a while so this was really refreshing. I will tell you that in the beginning I did struggle to get into it. I thought I'd be hooked from the start but I wasn't. However once I did get into it I didn't want to put it down.
If you are looking for a lighthearted and sweet read then I'd recommend you pick this one up ;)

Until Friday Night by Abbi Glines

This woman can do no wrong in my eyes. The first book I read by Abbi was the first book in the Vincent Brothers duology and I enjoyed it fine. I didn't love it but thought it was good. I remember deciding to pick up the second and loving it. That's when I found the Rosemary Beach series and I have never looked back.
I bought Until Friday Night a year ago and have been keeping it on my shelf for the right moment. As you all know I've been reading the Crossfire series by Sylvia Day and a couple weeks ago I finished the 4th book. I searched my library for the 5th one but with no luck. I went home and was like okay so you can either wait until you can order the 5th or you can pick up another book. Sometimes when I stop reading after I've been on a really great reading streak it puts me in a slump. So you guessed it, I looked on my shelf for another read. I saw this one sitting there and I said to myself in my best Morgan Freeman voice, "It's time."
I started it at about 11:00 p.m. while my son was sleeping and stayed up until about 2ish. If you have kids you understand that you don't get a lot of sleep so you don't usually want to waste it. I couldn't put this down though! I kept saying the whole "one more chapter" which lets be honest, it's a joke.
My darn eyelids betrayed me though and started getting heavy so I decided to finish it the next day while my son took his nap. Which I did. And I loved it.
I smiled like I did the first time I saw Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic and I cried like I did at the end of that dreadful movie.
In typical Abbi fashion Until Friday Night is told in dual perspectives which for the 108th time I love.
Our main lady is Maggie who has had some serious hell in her life. She witnessed her father murder her mother. Yikes. Ever since she hasn't spoken a word. She was living with her godmother but ends up going to live with her moms brother, wife and son who is the same age as her.
Our main fella is West Ashby who is the typical "Big Man on Campus" but who is dealing with some pretty sad stuff at home with a sick father.
The two meet at a field party one night when West is upset and decides to kiss Maggie. Next day at school he's a dick and she decides that he wasn't worth her time.
Obviously that doesn't last long or this would be a pretty shitty book.
West ends up coming clean with Maggie on his home life and she speaks for the first time - to him.
I absolutely 100%, without a doubt, no joke, loved this couple. I was hooked from the first page and stayed in love after I finished it.
Whether you've read this goddess' books before or not I DEFINITELY recommend you pick up Until Friday Night. You will not regret it.

The Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag August 2017 Edition

I did this tag in 2015...and a couple months ago hehe...but I love it and it's fun to see where we are. ;)

1. Best book you've read so far in 2015.
Gah!! I'm so conflicted. I loved Dangerous Lies by Becca Fitzpatrick but I loved Until Friday Night by Abbi Glines too. Can we just say both? Please? DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE!!

2. Best sequel you've read so far in 2015.
Do Like A Memory and Because of Lila count as sequels? Yes?

3. New release you haven't read yet, but want to.
I'm not sure when it was released - if it was even this year - but the last book in the Crossfire series.

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year.
John Greens new book obviously.

5. Biggest disappointment.
Beastly Lights by Theresa Jane.

6. Biggest surprise.
To be real with you I didn't know I'd love Dangerous Lies as much as I did.

7. Favorite new author. (Debut or new to you)
The only new author that I've read that I really enjoyed is K.A. Tucker. I have really enjoyed the Crossfire series by Sylvia Day but I don't know if I would read other books by her and I wouldn't hesitate to read more by K.A. Tucker.

8. Newest fictional crush.
Back in 2015 I chose an Abbi Glines character. Here in 2017...I'm going to choose an Abbi Glines character :P I'm going with Cruz Kerrington or West Ashby. <3

9. Newest favorite character.
I really loved West guys.

10. Book that made you cry.
Until Friday Night by Abbi Glines, Confess by Colleen Hoover, and I'm sure there were others.

11. Book that made you happy.
Even though Without Merit by Colleen Hoover has some sad moments that book made me laugh out loud. That woman is a genius.

12. Favorite book to film adaptation you saw this year.
I have only watched one book to movie adaptation this year and that was Fifty Shades Darker so I suppose we'll go with that one.

13. Favorite review you've written this year.
Probably my review for To Hate Adam Connor, that was a fun one.

14. Most beautiful book you've bought so far this year (or received)
I think the cover for Until It Fades is GORGEOUS.

15. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?
So. Many.

Because of Lila by Abbi Glines

Two days ago I reviewed Like A Memory for you all and told you all how much I loved it. The night that I finished it I picked up Because of Lila because...why wouldn't I? I stayed up until like 2 reading it and then finished it the next day.
That is one of my favorite things about Abbi's books, they are so addicting and easy to read. Let's just take a moment to appreciate her greatness.
...
Wasn't that lovely?
Alright on with the review.
Because of Lila is obviously about Lila Kate who is Grant and Harlow's daughter - from Rosemary Beach. Lila has always been in love with Cruz Kerrington - who is Woods and Della's son. He kissed her when they were in their early teens and she'd been hooked since. They are 21 and 22 - if I remember right - now and one night at a party Cruz kisses her again but then is an a-hole and calls her icy and other not friendly things.
Lila decides she's an adult and she's going to leave Rosemary Beach - and Cruz - and go on an adventure. Her first stop is Sea Breeze to stay with Nate and Bliss. There she meets Eli - who we meet in Like A Memory and is Bliss's best friend. The two have a one night stand and the next morning are both at Bliss and Nate's house having breakfast. Awkward.
Back in Rosemary Beach Cruz finds out that Lila left and it bothers him more than he thought it would. So what does he do? He takes off on his motorcycle to Sea Breeze and tells Lila to get on his bike with nothing but what she has on her and they'll go on her adventure together. Obviously since she's in love with him she goes.
The two realize their feelings for each other, well I suppose it's more like Cruz mans the f up and admits his feelings and it's pretty stinkin' hot.
I'm not going to tell you anymore because duh why would I ruin it for you?
I told you in my last review that I checked out other peoples thoughts on Like A Memory and just for kicks I did the same for this one. I noticed a lot of people saying that they thought the kids of our favorite characters are kind of jerks and that bothers them. I'm going to be honest, Cruz has some very unlikable moments but let us remember that Rush was kind of a huge dick to Blaire and Woods, Grant, and the rest of the lot were also not the sweetest at times.
I love the characters desperately and i'd definitely recommend Because of Lila.
p.s. I also totally ship Cruz and Lila. In love. Not surprising though since Woods is everything and we're talking about his spawn.

Like A Memory by Abbi Glines

When I first heard that my beloved Abbi Glines was releasing this series I almost fainted. Seriously, i'm not playing.
It is by no means a secret that I love the Rosemary Beach series. I don't really think we even need to address my love for it because you guys are well aware by now that it's my favorite - next to the Marked Men series by Jay Crownover. Which you also know, who are we kidding.
I have only read the first book in the Sea Breeze series so I don't know all of the characters from those books but Abbi said it's not necessary to even read ANY of the books first but it will provide you with a background. At first I wanted to read the Sea Breeze books before I started this one but I couldn't, I'm far to impatient.
I started reading Like A Memory last Thursday and finished it Friday.
I loved it. I know, I'm sure you're all shocked right now.
So because I haven't read the Sea Breeze books I don't know much about Bliss' parents but Nate is the son of Rush and Blaire who start of the Rosemary Beach books.
When they were teenagers the two met in Sea Breeze and fell in love. Unfortunately after their summer together plans to meet up disappeared when Bliss was diagnosed with a series disease. She didn't want Nate to see her sick so she never responded to any of his calls or texts. Years later they are now in their 20s and Bliss has been clear for 4 years. She decides to move in with her best friend and work for a girl who is opening a clothing store. This girl also happens to be engaged to Nate Finlay.
Nate pretends like he doesn't remember Bliss - which I mean ouch - but that whole act doesn't last long.
I read a few reviews before I started Like A Memory and I was surprised by how many people didn't like it. To be honest it made me nervous going into it. I'm so mad at myself for letting other peoples opinions worry me because I loved it.
If you are a fan of either the Sea Breeze books or Rosemary Beach...or perhaps you just want a good love story...then I definitely recommend you pick this up!!

Entwined With You by Sylvia Day

In the last few weeks I've reviewed the first 2 books in the Crossfire series and I'm here with you today to bring you my review for the third installment.
*Golf clap*
It should go without saying that if you haven't read the first two books you shouldn't read this review. Notice I said "it should" I have chosen to still say it and really beat that horse.
DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU'VE NOT READ THE FIRST TWO.
I AM NOT JOKING.
THIS IS NOT A DRILL.
PROCEED WITH CAUTION.
ACTUALLY DON'T PROCEED UNLESS YOU'VE READ THE FIRST TWO BOOKS.
--------
If you read the last book - which you darn well better have - you know that Gideon killed Nathan. You also know that him and Eva had to "break up" because Gideon didn't want there to be a connection to the jackass. Eva and him obviously can't stay away from each other though and decide that it's okay to come out as a couple again but they struggle with how to go about doing that. Because of that for a while they just sneak around. Which is kinda hot. And by kinda I mean whoa nelly.
While the two are dealing with everything an ex of Gideon's who is a reporter starts questioning Eva about their relationship. I have to tell you guys I feel really bad for Eva. I mean come on, it's like she can't catch a break from these witches with a b. She also is dealing with Brett again who won't let her turn him down. He ends up asking her to come to his music video reveal for "Golden" the song he wrote about her and it's basically a montage of their relationship.
Another thing happens in this book which made me such a happy little book blogger. I'm not gonna tell you though, I want you to be surprised. :)
I loved getting to see more of Eva and Gideon but also of other characters we've met such as Megumi and Cary. I also really love Eva's dad so any time he's mentioned in the books I get all smiley.
All in all if you've read the first 2 then I definitely recommend you keep up with the series and check this one out. So far it's probably my favorite.

Happy Bookaholic Tag Take Two

Back in 2014 my 24 year old self did this tag. I saw it on another bloggers page - well I saw theirs - and it made me want to do it again. I figured hey it's been 3 years, I wonder if my answers will change at all. I included my old answers below as well as my new answers so we can all see how much they've changed. 2014 answers will be like this and 2017...will not. Enjoy!! :)
1. What do you love about buying new books?
The feeling you get knowing you're holding a new adventure in your hands. Wow that sounded lame.

I love being able to escape which is basically the same answer I gave 3 years ago but in different words. Books take us into different worlds and it's nice to escape sometimes.

2. How often do you buy new books?
I bought a book last Friday and that's the first book I've bough in months. I used to go on crazy book buying sprees but lately I just haven't been interested. It's a problem, I know.

I bought the 4th book in the Crossfire series by Sylvia Day like 2 weeks ago? I told myself that if I could finish 3 books then I was allowed to go buy a new one. I have been able to do that occasionally but sometimes money is spent on other things like food and other things necessary for living.

3. Bookstore or online book shopping - which do you prefer?
I love going to the bookstore because it's fun to be able to see the books and hold them. But I also like online shopping because it's usually a lot cheaper, especially for hardcover books.

I still love going to the bookstore and looking for books but now that I have a very active and interested toddler and tighter fundage it's much easier to do online shopping. However when we do go to the bookstore it is exciting to see how happy he gets to look at books.

4. Do you have a favorite bookstore?
There is a used/new bookstore about 2 hours away that I've gone to quite a bit and I LOVE it.

Amazon has been my friend lately.

5. Do you preorder books?
The only physical book I've ever pre-ordered is Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer. But I have ordered quite a few e-books.

Breaking Dawn is still the only physical book I've ever pre-ordered.

6. Do you have a monthly book buying limit?
Not right now only because I haven't really been buying books. When I do get addicted to book buying I usually buy them used so I never really spend a lot of money.

Nope, never really saw a need for it.

7. Book buying bans - are they something for you?
Ha. That's laughable. No, they are in fact not for me.

Haha, still no.

8. How big is your wishlist?
So. Big.

So. Big.

9. Which 3 books (from your wishlist or preorders) would you like to own now?
-Nash by Jay Crownover
-Rush Too Far by Abbi Glines
-City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare

-Without Merit by Colleen Hoover (which I was actually just sent an ARC of!! :) I'm so stoked it's insane)
-Turtles All The Way Down by John Green
-Like A Memory by Abbi Glines (Yep, still adore that woman)

Reflected In You by Sylvia Day

Last week I told you all my thoughts on Bared To You which is the first book in the Crossfire series. Now when I began this series I thought it was only three books. Saturday I was with my son and we decided to go into the bookstore - well I decided, he was just happy because there were toys. While in there I saw that there are in fact 5 books in total. 5. Not 3. This made me a very happy reader because I am currently finishing up book 3. I thought I was going to have to wait years to see if she'd write another book and hot damn she'd written two. It was a beautiful moment. :P
Alright so lets get into the review. If you haven't read the first book then stop reading!!
I mean it.
Stop.
I'm not playing around.
Totally using my mom voice right now.
Alright, I've given you fair warning.
...
Last chance.
Okay, so in this book we see more of Eva and Gideons relationship.
That's all I'm telling you.
Hehe, not really.
At the end of the first book our couple were having some issues in the jealousy department and in the "Gideon won't tell any secrets to save his life" department.
In this installment there is still jealousy and Gideon still won't fill us in on many secrets.
I have to say though, these two sizzle off the page. Seriously guys, Sylvia Day knows how to write some steamy love.
I liked that we got to look deeper into the pasts of these characters, I loved Eva's dad and his visit, I loved the tension Brett caused, I still am totally infatuated with Cary. I really really liked it. The ONLY thing that got on my nerves a tid bit was Eva's jealousy. She's like off the charts sometimes. I get it, I get jealous too. And Gideon is a hunky man and she doesn't want to share. But sometimes I think she's a little immature about things and that bothers me. One of my least favorite things in the world is miscommunication and I think that this happens a lot between our couple.
All in all though I liked Reflected In You and I picked the 3rd book up right away...I'm also expecting the 4th book in the mail by tomorrow :)

Bared To You by Sylvia Day

Way back in the day - and by that I mean like 4 years ago - I read the Fifty Shades of Grey series. A couple years ago I came across this series and people were saying if you liked Fifty Shades you'd like this. Well in the store these books are like $15 a piece so I never purchased them. Thanks to good old fashioned library book sales I scored all three books last year for $1!! I win.
I put them away and kind of forgot about them until a couple of months ago. I had seen Bared To You in the store and was like oh hey I have those books, I should read them. Unfortunately I forgot where I put them. Hehe. After much digging I found the 2nd and 3rd. Boo. Then miraculously I found the 1st book the other day and decided to start reading it. I finished it in just a couple days and really really liked it.
Our couple is Gideon and Eva who are absolutely crazy for each other. From the second the two met they've been hooked. Gideon is a multi billionaire handsome fella and Eva is from money and gorgeous. She has recently moved to New York City with her best friend Cary - who's a male model and I love him. She is determined to work and make her own money and the office she works in is in the same building as Gideon. Lucky girl. Once the two of them start talking Gideon quite bluntly points out that he wants her - and I mean wants her.
She's all oh no sir you don't talk to me like that but duh they end up getting together.
Gideon has secrets from a tortured past and Eva has had her own trauma. The two of them together equals a beautiful disaster.
I do see why people compared this to Fifty Shades because of the hot guy who's rich, blunt, obsessive and basically a sex addict verging on the uber kinky side. But I feel like that's where the similarities end. The only thing Ana and Eva have in common is the fact that they're jealous and can be insecure with the one they love. But Eva is more experienced and confident where Ana isn't.
I did like the chemistry between the two a lot because they're...hot. But I felt sometimes that they needed to take a chill.
With that being said I started reading the second one yesterday because I have to know the rest of their story. I'm about half way through so I'm hoping to have it finished soon and have a review up next week.
I would recommend this book if you're looking for a steamy romance.

The Secret Life of A Book Blogger Tag

I saw this tag over on Spines & Covers and loved it. Any tag that talks about the book blogging community is fun for me. If you want to check out their tag click HERE

1. How long have you been a blogger?
My first post was on February 19, 2013 - and yes I did just go look. So I've been a book blogger for over 4 years now and that is crazy to me.

2. At what point do you think you'll stop blogging?
I don't know if I'll ever stop blogging. It has become such a constant in my life and I always look forward to writing my posts.

3. What is the best thing about blogging?
Everything. I love the people I've met, I love the books that I've read that I might not have without bloggers and vloggers. It's just a wonderful community and I'm so grateful to be a part of it.

4. What is the worst thing? What do you do to make it okay?
Um, I don't know if there is a "worst thing". I mean it sucks when I get in reading slumps because then I don't post any reviews. The whole reason I started A Book Lovers Playlist was to write reviews and create playlists. So yeah it kinda stinks when I have none to write BUT that's not my blogs fault.

5. How long does it take to make/find pictures to use?
It depends, sometimes it's like 10 seconds, sometimes it's a lot longer.

6. What do you wear when you write blog posts?
Sometimes I like to write my posts when my son is sleeping at night so if that's the case then I'm in pajamas. Other times I write them when he's napping so then I'm - usually - dressed for the day.

7. How long does it take to prepare?
I hate to say this again but...it depends. There have been times when I've read a lot so I pre-write reviews or tags if I see any that I like. I have sat down before though with notes and things and it takes me a while. Not really preparing but the act of actually putting it all together takes a long time.

8. How do you feel about the book blogger community?
I love every one of them.

9. What do you think one should do to get a successful blog?
Keep it up. Don't let lack of pageviews, comments, or followers get you down and make you quit doing something you love. It's a fun world to be a part of and if you keep up with it you'll really love it.

The Literary Dinner Party Tag

1. One character who can cook/likes to cook
Anastasia can cook pretty well in Fifty Shades so we'll go with her.

2. One character who has money to fund the party
Hmm...well Christian Grey has a lot of money...not sure how he'd feel about funding a party and Ana cooking though.

3. One character who might cause a scene
Nan from the Rosemary Beach series. She's a pain in the tush more often than not.

4. One character who is funny/amusing
Patrick from Perks of Being a Wallflower is super funny and I think he'd make an excellent dinner guest.

5. One character who is super social/popular
Brett from Until It Fades is a professional hockey player so he's my perfect choice.

6. One villain
I always liked Sebastian from the Mortal Instruments. He'd make things interesting I think.

7. One couple - doesn't have to be romantic
Rule and Shaw. I <3 them.

8. One hero/heroine
Katniss is a hero, lets go with her.

9. One underappreciated character
I don't feel like Eddie from the Vampire Academy/Bloodlines series gets enough love. He does in the book, I just don't think enough people love on him who read the books.

10. One character of your own choosing
Catherine from Until It Fades because I love her and because Brett is coming, so she should be there too.

Because of Lila by Abbi Glines Is Now Available!!

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Prim, proper, classic good girl, and her least favorite label - icy.

Lila Kate Carter has heard them all. The last one, being the newest. She is not icy. She just doesn’t care for Cruz Kerrington and his spoiled, selfish, careless ways. That doesn’t make her icy, that makes him a jerk!

Tired of being labeled and doing what is expected of her, Lila Kate leaves Rosemary Beach, Florida ready for an adventure. Wanting to recreate herself, find a new path, and become something more.

Eli Hardy is tired of women who always act the same, do the same thing and expect the same thing. He's ready to swear off women until he can get the rest of his life together.

Two weeks into his no-women-rule he meets Lila. She’s so damn sweet and polite. Like she walked right out of an etiquette book. But he’d already been drunk before she walked in so there was a good chance she might not be as stunning and perfect as he thinks. He’s just too drunk to worry about that.

The next morning, he swears he can still smell her on his skin. He just can’t remember why or what happened after that third dance.

Their worlds are about to collide, and so are the secrets and lies.

Until It Fades by K.A. Tucker

Before I start you all know I like to tell you when I receive a book for review...so now's where I tell you I was sent this book ;)
Even when I am sent a book my opinion is 100% honest because I need you guys to be able to trust me. Luckily for me a lot of the ARCS I'm sent I really do enjoy.
Except for Beastly Lights...we all know that one didn't become my favorite.
I loved Until It Fades. Like really genuinely enjoyed my time reading it.
In the beginning we are in the past which sometimes I don't like. I feel like it's not always well done and unnecessary. However I really liked it this time around. I felt like we needed that background to understand our main character Catherine.
Speaking of our main character I think she's absolutely wonderful. She has dealt with some pretty not fun things in her life but she's not annoying about it like some characters can be.
She seems real and I love that.
As far as our love interest Brett, yeah I love him too.
The rundown of the story is that Cath had a baby when she was pretty young and is now a single mom working for a truck stop diner. One night on the way home from a terrible blind date she sees a car that has hit a tree and she stops to call the police. During her phone call to them she sees that the driver is deceased but the passenger -while he has some serious injuries- can be helped. The car catches on fire and through serious super human strength and a little help from the half conscious man, Cath is able to get him out of the car. Once the police show up - one officer is her best friend - she begs them to keep her name out of report. Remember how I said she's had some not so fun things happen? Yeah that's why she doesn't want her name out there.
Anyway it turns out that the man she saved is a NHL star and his mother is a huge movie star. He ends up finding out her name and showing up on her doorstep.
I don't really want to tell you much more because then I'll start gushing and end up giving you every detail. If you guys are looking for a book that is extremely well written but also easy to read you seriously don't need to look any further.
I loved the characters, the writing, everything. I definitely recommend Until It Fades!!

The Ruby Circle by Richelle Mead

If you guys are long time readers of my blog then you know that I'm a big fan of the Vampire Academy and Bloodlines series. You also know that I have a deep love for Adrian Ivashkov. Ah. Adrian.
I read the Vampire Academy series FOREVER ago and when I found out there was going to be a spin of series I jumped on it. Well, I jumped on it once the first book was out in paperback. I really liked the first book and wanted to read the second but waited until it too was released in paperback. For some reason when I got it though I didn't read it at first. Silly me.
When I finally did read it I was in love. Because I took 10 years to read it books 3-5 were out so I went crazy and bought them all on my kindle and read them one after the other. I couldn't wait for the last book to come out but didn't want to pay for the hardback and at that time the kindle book was more than a paperback so I waited.
It finally released in paperback and I snatched it up and then it sat on my shelf. I didn't want the series to end. This is a world that I've lived in for a while with these books and I wasn't ready for it to be over. But a couple weeks ago I looked at it and I just really wanted to find out what was going to happen. So I read it.
It's hard for me to review books that aren't the first book in a series - let alone the last book - so I'm not really going to give you any details.
What I will say is that I loved it. If you have read Vampire Academy or Bloodlines and haven't read the Ruby Circle yet don't be like me and wait forever.
Adrian and Sydney are so ship worthy it's sickening. I love them so much.
So much happens in this installment that it's crazy but so so good.
If you have read the series please leave a comment below and tell me what you think.
Obviously I definitely recommend!!

OITNB: Heathers Perspective

Hello friends, so as you know yesterday I shared my take on season 5 of Orange Is The New Black. Today my friend Heather, who you know from her DUFF story on Wednesday, has shared her thoughts. Enjoy!! Along with most of the planet I spent my weekend bingeing season 5 of Orange is the New Black and let me tell ya it was a weekend well spent. Okay so I must say that the last 2 seasons weren't exactly stellar in my opinion and I did struggle a bit to get through the last one but I still found myself wanting more. As the release date got closer and the previews started dropping the more excited I got. Now I've been reading a lot of people's thoughts about the new season and all I can think is did they watch the same show that I did because I thought it was brilliant. It finally got back to the same level of excitement and darkness as the first 2. It picked right up with Daya holding the gun on the guard and it didn't stop until it was over. I literally was on the edge of my seat the whole time. The acting was on point and the characters made us fall for them all over again. It was a constant rollercoaster of emotions that lasted the entire season. I both laughed and cried so hard in almost every episode and all my favorites were in it. There were a couple breakout scenes for me that made me feel these girls pain and love for Poussey so deeply that I seriously had to take breaks in the episodes in order to get through them. That's how good it was in my opinion. The character that really got to me the most and I felt was the real star of this season was by far Taystee, that girl took me to places I wasn't ready for and she left me screaming for more. So I completely disagree completely with all the negative Nancy's out there who say that this show has lost it's spark. I think it is the best season yet and Netflix did a great job with it. The only regret I have is bingeing the entire season in 3 days because now I'm crying about having to wait a year to find out what happens to my girls.

OITNB: My Thoughts

I'm sure many of you know that I am a big fan of Orange Is The New Black. I've done that tag and I've mentioned it a few times on my blog. So as a huge fan I'm sure it's no surprise that I was counting down the hours until this fantastic show began streaming on Netflix.
I woke up at 5:30 in the morning and while my sweet son still slept I binged the hell out of it.
I ended up finishing it completely in the span of three days. The only reasons it took me three whole days to finish are because I do have a son and it's not exactly Paw Patrol material we're working with here, and also because I needed a break between some of the episodes.
I posted on my personal Facebook that I was watching it and mentioned something about Taystee and a good friend of mine commented that she had finished the season and hated it. She proceeded to write a few more paragraphs on how the show has gone downhill and basically thinks it sucks now. She did say a few scenes were good and the acting for some was great but those were about the nicest things she had to say. Well that had me worried! I was only 3 or 4 episodes in at the time so I thought to myself, "Self? Does this mean that these first few episodes have been good and the rest suck?"
Uh. No.
At least not in my opinion.
I'm going to be totally honest with you guys, I did not like season 4. It took me probably a month to actually finish it because I just wasn't as addicted as I usually am. I will say the last couple of episodes got me hooked and I was upset when it was over. But as an overall season I didn't like it.
I was excited for this season because I wanted to see how they were going to pick up from season 4 and I wanted to see all of the characters I love so much. The previews were bad ass too soooo that kind of helped in my excitement.
I think season was the best season since the first 2. I laughed, I cried, I yelled at the stinkin screen. It was incredible.
The acting guys. The freaking acting. Danielle Brooks who plays Taystee deserves every award that's ever been created and future awards that don't exist yet. She was phenomenal. She had me in TEARS!! Her performance was absolutely stunning. If I ever got the chance to meet her I'd just want to hug her and tell her she's the best ever. Like ever.
The other actresses did a fantastic job as well but I think Taystee really was the hit this season and really captured all of us.
In conclusion I have to say again that I loved it. If you haven't checked it out yet you should because...wow. So so good.

I'm A DUFF: Heather

It's been a hot minute since I have shared someones DUFF story but I'm so happy to be bringing it back today. My friend Heather will be telling you her story and I have to tell you I think she did such a beautiful job writing it and I'm so proud of her for being so fearless and opening up to us.
Thank you Heather!!
____

My name is Heather and I'm a DUFF!!
I've always made friends really easily. I was never the shy girl. I love to talk, dance, and help out anywhere I could. I was a part of so many groups in school, but I never fit into one particular group of people. I fit into all of them in some way so as awesome as that might sound, it's actually quite lonely. I had so many friends but soon realized I was always going to be that girl that they associated with for whatever need they had for me at that moment, like the backup friend in case something better fell through. I was never really the popular one by society standards. I mean I liked to read and was good at school and followed the rules: the good girl that did what she was supposed to.
I was the plain girl next door, the one that is always there for you, but you never really pay attention to. I've always felt like I was pretty, but never beautiful. I've never been skinny a day in my life and I'm barely 5'2" with mousy light brown hair so not really model material you know, and people sometimes made fun of me and called me "Hefty Heather" like it was a compliment. I tried to ignore it but deep down it hurt so bad and no matter how little I ate and how active I was I could never lose enough weight.
This battle followed me well into early adulthood and I often stumbled over my style to find what I could wear that was flattering and what I shouldn't wear. I realized I should always play up my eyes and smile because they are my best features and that glitter is always a girls best friend. I also learned that I have Poly-cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and Endometriosis which is the reason why I have such a hard time losing weight, along with that comes infertility and gull bladder issues along with a ton of food allergies as well as depression and sever anxiety. I also had to have a cancerous tumor removed and undergo radiation therapy. So in a nutshell the weight is the least of my concern. It wasn't until after I started dating my husband and ending up in a treatment facility after a suicide attempt that I was able through a lot of therapy and self reflection and having the most supportive husband, friends and family a girl could ever hope for. I finally got to a place in my life where I can actually say that I love the person that I am.
I will also learn to love the many versions of this person that will evolve as my life goes on. I have learned that it's okay to not be perfect according to some stupid stereotype that society makes us think we have to fit. Yes I still have my days where I look in the mirror and am like "oh girl today is not your day" but on those days I make myself put on my favorite heels and dress and put on the makeup and do my hair because my momma always told me that no matter what, "You get up, dress up, show up and never give up." I am proud of the woman that I have become because I have had to fight her so much in order to become her. I can finally accept it as a fact when my husband calls me beautiful instead of dismiss it as him just being nice. I know that it is okay to stand out because I have a super power that no one else has. I am ME and no one else can ever have that power.
Guess what, you all have an equally amazing super power too, the power of being YOU and don't ever let anyone take that power away!!
